Energy balance, malnutrition and sarcopenia in individuals with obesity and advanced knee osteoarthritis

We profiled the nutritional status of individuals with BMI≥35kg/m2 and knee osteoarthritis. This population was under negative energy balance (67%) and low protein intake (91%). Sarcopenic obesity (excess fat mass, low muscle mass and strength) and malnutrition (low muscle mass and inflammation) were present in 1 out of 4 individuals.
